Join an incredible Bushman initiation hunt in Botswana
28 April-12 May 2010
Join an unbelievable, and once-off, opportunity, to witness and participate in a rapidly disappearing Bushmen ritual. This 8-night initiation hunt (followed by two nights at the exclusive Jack's Camp and ending with four nights at the enigmatic Tsodilo Hills) is led by the famous Botswana-born expert of the Kalahari and the Bushmen, Ralph Bousfield.
Ralph’s special relationship with the bushmen ensures a genuine and unpatronising Bushman experience where you witness the age-old rituals and traditions associated with an eland hunt and rites of passage into manhood. You will accompany the hunt and respectfully observe the related rituals and tradition which are related to its successful conclusion. This is followed by two nights at Jack’s Camp, one of the most romantic camps in Africa infused with remnants of the decadent colonial safari era, where you will go on walks and drives to see meerkats and other desert-adapted wildlife and plant-life. The final four days of the safari will be spent exploring the fascinating rock art in the Tsodilo Hills.
On this safari you will also be in the exclusive company of Carole Beckwith and Angela Fisher, the creators of the extraordinary book Rituals and Ceremonies, David Coulson, Chairman of The African Rock Art Association (TARA) and Alec Campbell, the first Director of National Parks in Botswana and the leading expert on African rock art, whose efforts ensured that 17% of Botswana was placed under protection.
