Rusinga Island Lodge
Rusinga Island Lodge lies on the north eastern shore of Lake Victoria and is built under huge wild fig trees. The 8 thatched cottages are surrounded by magnificent gardens with exotic trees and flowers and a myriad of birds. As a family run lodge, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with delicious food, home-grown veggies and home made breads and pastas. There are plenty of activities such as windsurfing, water skiing, sailing in a traditional dhow or fishing for supper. You can catch tilapia or the giant Nile perch, the camp record is 208 pounds. You can walk around the lodge and close by are important archaeological sites with fossils dating back 2 million years. There are also excursions to Ruma National Park where there is the opportunity to see Kenya's last surviving group of Roan antelope and other game. A largely unknown park you will have the place to yourself with game drives and a bush breakfast.
