Kenya : Shompole

Shompole

Shompole is one of our favourite camps in Kenya, and the place to spend a couple of totally exclusive days in a beautiful setting and a unique lodge. Set on the side of the Nguruman escarpment, in the south-west of Kenya, the lodge is a joint-owned venture between a private safari company, and the members of the Maasai community of Shompole Group Ranch. It has six rooms constructed from natural white quartz stone, pale thatch and indigenous wood, and has amazing views over the Great Rift Valley. Using water as a prime feature, each suite has a 'cool pool' and informal sitting areas, a bathroom with a view and a specially designed, mosquito-netted sleeping tent which has vast windows and a high canopied roof. Activities include early morning and evening walks, night drives, sundowner visits to Lake Natron to see the flamingos, picnics and nights spent out in romantic fly-camps. Even though there is plenty to do, you probably wont want to leave your room - it's just so relaxing and has such an amazing view.

"What an exceptional place!"

Little Shompole

For those looking for the ultimate in exclusivity there is Little Shompole; similar in design but with only two luxurious suites with private pools. It also has its own swimming pool and dining and sitting area.
