Namibia : The South: Luderitz and Fish River Canyon
Namibia’s south is very harsh but very beautiful and is where to come to see Namibia’s eerie ghost towns, abandoned by the diamond miners in the 1950s and now partially buried under the sand. From the former colonial town of Luderitz, you can also go on a boat trip to Halifax Island to see its jackass penguins. A particular highlight of this region is the Fish River Canyon, which is very dramatic and is the world's largest canyon after the Grand Canyon. Even if you don’t hike through it (which is definitely for the fit and able), you can admire its scale from a viewpoint and visit the nearby Kokerboom Forest or the hot springs at Ai-Ais. You can also go kayaking on the Orange River.
