Self Drive, Namibia

Driving is a pleasure in Namibia – hundreds of miles of well-maintained and virtually empty roads through spectacular landscapes. A self drive itinerary will let you explore this amazing country at your own pace. This is a vast country with limited accommodation, so it is essential to book accommodation in advance, especially in the school holidays. On this 2 week tour, you will visit Etosha, Damaraland, Sossusvlei and the Waterberg Plateau. The itinerary is suitable for a normal saloon car and you will be staying in good quality accommodation including Parks Board Camps.


Day 1

On arrival into Windhoek you will be met and transferred to Hilltop House. Here you can relax and enjoy the views or explore Windhoek. Accommodation is on a bed & breakfast basis.

Days 2-4

Your Group B car will be delivered to Hilltop House and you will depart for Sossusvlei where you will spend 3 nights at Kulala Desert Lodge. Kulala is the closest lodge to Sossusvlei and the perfect base from which to explore the Namib Desert. You can relax on the verandah or swimming pool terrace and enjoy delicious French Cuisine. Accommodation will be on a half board basis – breakfast and dinner included.

Days 5-6

Today you will head west to Swakopmund which is situated on the coast and is a German influenced resort town. You can explore, relax or even sign up for a variety of desert excursions and activities such as sand boarding or quad biking.
Accommodation at Sams Giardino Guesthouse on a bed & breakfast basis.

Days 7-8

Drive on to Damaraland/Khorixas area for a 2 night stay at Twyfelfontein Lodge which is situated only 4kms from the historic Twyfelfontein rock engravings. You can use this as a base and visit the surrounding attractions, such as Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipes and Petrified Forest. Activities include hiking, donkey cart rides to Wondergat, excursions to the Doros crater and game drives. Accommodation is on a bed & breakfast basis.

Days 9-11

Today will now proceed to Etosha National Park which is over 22,000 sq km. You will stay 3 nights at 2 rest camps located inside the Park –Okaukuejo and Namutoni, both of which offer a variety of accommodation options. Each also has a floodlit water hole, excellent for viewing game such as elephant, hyena, buck and rhino, during the evening hours. In between day time game drives you can relax at the camps which have restaurants and swimming pools.

Day 12

After Etosha you will head south to the Waterberg which is a lush green area just north of Windhoek. Here you will stay at the Waterberg Wilderness Lodge for the night. Various walks in the area and a climb to the top of the plateau will afford the most amazing views across the plain below. Full board

On your last day, you will leave Waterberg and return to Windhoek Airport to drop off the car and catch your flight home.
