Mountain Biking Safari, Namibia

Sometimes the only way to experience the vastness of a desert is to put yourself at the heart of it. While traditional safaris will always be popular, there are those want something different. This safari provides the unique opportunity to cycle through Namibia's magnificent desert landscape whilst being a being accommodated in both adventure camps and at some of the finest luxury lodges in Namibia.

Day 1 - Arrival at Windhoek

Meet up with local guides and collect mountain bikes. Continue by vehicle to the stunning Brandberg Mountains, Namibia's highest mountains, on the banks of the Ugab River. Warm-up ride of approximately 40km from Brandberg Mountains to the Save the Rhino Camp, Ugab. The Campsites are shaded by big acacia trees and surrounded by salvadora bushes.

Day 2 - Ugab River, Brandberg riding

Ride the old zinc mind and surrounding areas. This great mountain bike terrain with some technical riding as well as a few rough climbs and thrilling downhills! Not long, but lots of fun. You will relax at the camp for the afternoon and explore the Ugab.

1 nights camping at the Save the Rhino Camp, Ugab

Day 3 - Cycle to Damaraland Camp

The longest stage 90 -100km with continuously changing scenery and a river crossing. A good possibility to see some Oryx, Springbuck, Giraffe and Rhino. The day ends at the Damaraland Camp (luxury, permanent tented ensuite rooms)

Day 4 - Damaraland to Palmwag Rhino Camp

An 80km ride through the rough landscape of Damaraland to Palmwag. This is Rhino country in a very harsh but interesting environment.

1 night at Palmwag campsite.

Day 5 - Palmwag campsite to Palmwag Rhino Camp

A 40km ride to Palmwag Rhino Camp. Short and interesting ride into the heart of the Rhino area. You will spend the afternoon tracking rhino with the Save the Rhino rangers ending with sundowners in the middle of nowhere!

1 night at Palmwag Rhino Camp (luxury, permanent tented suites)

Day 6 - Transfer back to Windhoek

There is the option of an extension tour to Etosha and or Serra Cafema.


April - September

Mountain bike and helmet
Bike spares and maintenance equipment
Fully comprehensive first aid kit (all guides are first aid qualified)

3 nights camping with all camping equipment (tents, bedding, cool box, chairs, tables etc)
2 nights luxury tented camp (Damaraland & Palmwag), includes meals and camp activities
1 x 4x4 Safari Landrover for groups of 4 – 8 people (2x Safari Landrovers for larger groups plus 4x4 pick up for bikes and gear
Full time services of Tokkie Bombosh (bike guide, cleaning and maintenance of bikes during and after the trip, camp setup and general organisation)
Full time services of wilderness safari guides
