Family safaris

Introducing your children or grandchildren to the wonders of Africa is one of the greatest thrills and perfect for making memories that will last a lifetime.

Experience the wonders of the African bush together, enjoying the many magical adventures on offer. See the majestic wildlife up close, discover their tracks, learn from the local guides, and experience the thrill of tented accommodation or bedrooms as big as a house.
We will tailor your holiday to suit your family’s ages and requirements, guiding you to the best locations, lodges, and camps to ensure we deliver the perfect bespoke safari for YOUR family.

From walking safaris with camels and evenings sitting around a campfire, toasting tasty treats under Africa’s vast starlit sky, to taking unforgettable journeys in 4x4s as the local guides show you the wonders of African wildlife – we can make it happen.

Many of our lodges and camps are flexible around timings and offer a wide range of activities for children, as even the most adventurous budding little explorer gets tired and it’s often those little touches that make all the difference.

Even the coast is a wonder for children, introducing them to snorkelling and life under the sea or watching turtles laying eggs or their hatchlings scuttling to the sea for the first time.

Did you know?

  • Children’s safari activities include learning about animal tracks and poo, cooking in the kitchen or over the fire, making and firing bows and arrows, collecting bugs and seeds, making casts of animal tracks and some lodges even give junior ranger certificates.
  • Some camps have a minimum age for kids on game drives so you might have to hire a private vehicle.
  • Most national parks have an age restriction for walking safaris but it’s not so strict in some private reserves.
  • In most areas, we can arrange visits to local schools and villages to introduce you to local life.
  • Take some kids’ orientated African animal books and a UV torch will keep them entertained as they can hunt for scorpions.
  • We can arrange for someone to keep an eye on the kids if you want some time off.
  • A swimming pool is great for a little afternoon downtime.
  • There are areas of Africa that are non-malarial in South Africa and parts of East Africa.
  • Most camps offer family tents with adjoining rooms which are ideal for families.
  • Conservation is important and introducing it to children at a young age will put them and our environment in good stead for the future.
